1801 - 41 E Huntingdon Huntingdon: ONE BLOCK, ONE INVESTMENT
1801 - 41 E. Huntingdon Street has sat vacant for years: battered historic bank next to a shuttered 1900-era textile factory and an empty parking lot at a corner that all of East Kensington walks past. Directly adjacent to the Huntingdon Station of SEPTA’s L line, this intersection experienced decades of disinvestment, but now public and private partners are investing in its recovery.
1807 - 41 creates 109 housing units with permanent mixed-income residency including 22 permanently rent-restricted apartments, naturally occurring affordable homes <80% AMI and two ground-floor cafés.
1801 restores the historic 1909 National Textile Bank, a historic neighborhood asset, as the home of Strother Enterprises, an established Black-owned hospitality business. The project adds a commissary kitchen, workforce opportunities, event space and a place for community gathering.
Together, the projects activate a half block long side of the 1800 block of E Huntingdon St with housing, affordability, small business, workforce, culture and neighborhood stability—assembled as a substantial and coordinated block-level investment rather than two isolated developments. Total project costs are $35 million.
